We thank God for encouraging opportunities to share the vision of personal disciple-making with pastors and church leaders in Southern Africa.
Our teammate Luke recently reported from the Baptist Union of Southern Africa’s National Assembly, where he had the opportunity to promote the Becoming a Disciple-Maker course. The gathering brought together more than 300 delegates from churches affiliated with the Union.
With evangelism as the assembly’s theme and discipleship planned as the theme for the following year, this was a timely opportunity to introduce training that helps believers personally invest in the spiritual growth of others. Sharing Christ and helping people grow as His disciples belong together in the life and ministry of the local church.
Luke prepared banners and flyers to introduce the course, and several key regional network leaders and pastors expressed interest in future training. We are encouraged by these conversations and prayerfully look forward to seeing that interest develop into practical opportunities to equip churches.
Luke also spoke with a seminary leader in Cape Town to explore the possibility of a workshop for pastors who are alumni of the institution. Such a gathering could provide another opportunity to help pastors consider how intentional disciple-making can become part of their churches’ everyday ministry.
These are encouraging beginnings. Our prayer is that the conversations will lead to training, and that the training will help believers faithfully pass on what they have learned—making disciples who can, in turn, equip others.
