GOD – The Disciple-Maker’s Devotional

“In the past God spoke to our forefathers…at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son…” – Hebrews 1:1-2

To understand man’s origin is to recognize the evidence of intelligent design and appreciate God’s universal creative handprints. His revelation to us explains that, “In the beginning [He] created the heavens and the earth…” (Genesis 1:1a) and before the universe was created “…the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning and through Him all things were made…” (John 1:1-3a) It is impossible to grasp the profound significance of creation without understanding its source. The Bible provides us with this important explanation –

“In Him was life, and that light was the light of man. The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” – John 1:4; 14

To know the Father is to know His Son, therefore the Judeo Christian faith was God’s way of revealing life’s deepest truth as well as the purpose for which man was made. Scripture provides the mosaic of His progressive revelation which summarized says, “For the law [of God] was given through Moses; [but] grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” (John 1:17) The Bible, which was written over many centuries by many inspired authors, is a single unified account of God’s revelation. It contains the inspiring meaning of history and condenses it into one remarkable statement…

“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16

The virgin birth, the majestic angelic announcement of the Lord’s coming, and the shepherd’s humble testimony all confirm one single world changing reality – He loved us! Indeed, He loved us so much that He left heaven to prove it, “… and to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12) The Christ child was heaven’s message and timeless provision for our forgiveness. God’s only Son was His greatest gift to mankind!
As the prophet John the Baptist declared, “From the fullness of His grace we have all received one blessing after another.” (John 1:16) This clearly stated expression of gratitude laid the foundation for all of humanity’s future experience. In God’s vast universe, acknowledging His existence, honoring Him, and receiving His Son’s great sacrifice of love unitedly blend together to define the meaning of life. The Lord Jesus declared,

“I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” – John 10:10
