Dear Praying Friends,
By now I believe you know that our lifetime’s leading example of presenting God’s love to the world has just passed his “torch” to our generation. Without compromise, Billy Graham, like the Apostle Paul, was not “… ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believes it…” (Romans 1:16) He proclaimed God’s glorious good news in many countries to more people than anyone in world history!
The 20th Century will be remembered as the time when countless lives were changed and forever redeemed through his powerful preaching on repentance and personal faith in Jesus Christ. He faithfully proclaimed the Savior’s life and teaching to millions! His most often used phrase was “the Bible says” and in every stadium, John 14:6 was written so all could see and understand. “Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
After having known him for 63 years and traveled widely for two years as BGEA’s first intern, I feel certain that he would tell us that the very best years for Christianity are just ahead. Our mission collectively is to live and share our faith in preparation for the Lord’s return!
Billy often said that the most important promise related to the Lord’s second coming is found in Matthew 24:14, “And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.”
My prayer is that in deep personal faith and obedience, we will each take the “torch” doubling our passion and resolve to witness daily, make disciples, and help fulfill the Great Commission. That is the lifestyle Billy Graham faithfully modeled. I will personally greatly miss him, but the best way I know to express my love and respect is to point others to the Savior just as he did. Let’s agree today to do that together!
In Deep Gratitude,
Billie
