“He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
(Colossians 1:17)
Part One
Mankind, at its very best can only attempt to discover, name, and utilize what God has willed into existence. Forever exceeding our capacity to comprehend – He continues to develop and control His vast and ever-expanding universe. He is the power and eternal why behind everything that – exists! As the never created – I AM – He has always been! Quietly pause to think about the present tense “is” seen above in Colossians 1:17. Then consider Hebrew 13:8, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Part Two
God orchestrated the world’s unending process of change. This is how we know that physical years, centuries, and millennium have passed. In His sovereignty, He perpetuates His timeless plan of stellar and biological creation. Beyond our imagination, He has designed all that has ever been, (see Isaiah 44:24), or ever will be (see John 1:1-3)!
Mankind’s quest to discover all that God “holds together” through His Son, provides each new generation with the rewarding privilege of exploration. His highly active physical universe exceeds our human capacity to measure its size, age, or speed of future expansion. The Bible explains, “He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.” (Colossians 1:17)
Part Three
Timelessly, before our solar system existed, the Author of creation was -already there (see Genesis 1:2)! Historically, each new generation’s fleeting years repeatedly demonstrate that human birth and death are God’s chosen bookends for man’s brief earthly existence. We are simply momentarily here for the privilege of meeting Him and fulfilling our spiritual purpose. Ephesians 2:10 explains, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”
Part Four
Like the universe itself, our lives involve only a finite moment in eternity, and we were designed to function – “… a little lower than the angels…” (Hebrews 2:7) In that capacity, we were created to exercise our unique God-given privilege and enjoy His fellowship!
The Bible refers to this amazing privilege when it says, “God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with His Son…” (1 Corinthians 1:9) Notably, it is that very relationship which is now being forged. In heaven, all redeemed believers will have that same wonderful experience
(1 Corinthians 2:9). This is why personally knowing the Savior and securely reaching heaven’s desired destination are – inseparably linked together!
Part Five
Nothing related to our human birth was ever earned. We had absolutely nothing to do with the timing, location, or human circumstances associated with our arrival. It is therefore wise to understand that everything we value including our different abilities are all gifts – from God!
Every breath we breathe and all the beauty that surrounds us proceeds directly from God’s caring hands. This is why pride and the rejection of His openly demonstrated love only reveals the depth of our human ingratitude! The Bible says, “God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
Part Six
During this period of history, Satan’s daunting influence and deceitfulness has not yet – ended (see Revelation 20:1-3, 10). “Yes,” at the end of earthly time Jesus will be our Judge (see Acts 10:42-43). He is His Father’s spoken Word (see John 1:1-5; Revelation 19:13). Our divinely defeated enemy knows this better than anyone (see Luke 10:18-19)!
To appreciate the Savior’s self-evident activity, simply think about the beautiful sound that resonates from a fine acoustic guitar. Could its music be heard if guitars did not exist? Think still deeper – could guitars exist without the creative planning of a skilled craftsman? That same principle illustrates the existence of everything that our heavenly Father created through His Son.
“All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”
(John 1:3)
Part Seven
The Bible says, “…you shall know the truth…” It also promises, “…seek, and you will find;” (John 8:32; Luke 11:9-10) Before the end of his life, after many years of study, Darwin was greatly impacted by God’s amazingly detailed design in man’s creation. It was the speed and incredible function of the human eye that led him to recognize the profound and undeniable role of the world’s eternal designer. (See the Origin of Species, 6th edition; Chapter 6, Page 68) God’s incarnate Son was the Carpenter who built the magnificent world that we so greatly enjoy!
